Most jobs in the banking sector fall into the office and administrative support areas, including teller positions. Summer internships tend to be available only to students in related degrees. As the banking industry is high pressure, these tend to be intense. Competition for them is also high, given the higher wages and better job prospects in the banking sector. Most of these internships are in specialist areas such as analysts or asset management.

The course of action depends on whether your goal is management in a bank or a more specialist position in financial planning, sales or insurance. Although not all administrative banking positions require degrees, many do. An MBA gives an extra advantage for those seeking to move up. Financial planning and similar work pays well and can lead to the opportunity to run your own business.
